I just registered my son today. He absolutely loves it. Its been a few months he was telling me he wants to learn martial arts after watching Karate kid. He enjoyed every minute of it. The instructors seems very kind and professional. Im actually very happy and exited to see him enjoy doing what he really likes. I recommend this place to everyone. Also the place is very clean and spacious. They have lots of rooms to move around and enjoy their gym time. The reception was alao a very nice girl and was patiently answering all my questions.

My kids have been going to Excel since the summer. They both love attending the classes as the instructors are super caring and friendly. They have already learned so many self-defence skills that as a parent I could've not taught them. Highly recommend!

Valerie is so amazing. She is kind, knowledgeable, good at instruction and conveying to children. My son is in the before and after school program and he enjoys the friendships and bonds he has created with the instructors. The program is amazing, not only does it include martial arts but also provides transportation to and from school. They are open early and run late to accomodate my crazy schedule.

I just attended the last women's self defense class and I was amazed by how many simple techniques, and familial discussions on safety plans can make such a big difference! It was a fun group of ladies and the instructors broke everything down so that all ability levels and ages could participate! 10/10 recommend women to bring their friends, daughters, and family to take this essential course!

EMA has had a positive impact on my son over the past year. He is more confident when interacting with his peers and his physical fitness has improved. My son & I loved Mini Heroes! The instructors were both high energy, and engaging-he actually followed their instructions!
The class was great for introductory skills such as kicking, punching, jumping, balancing and listening!!
It was a great way to start a Saturday and burn some energy. It was also fun bonding and moving together in the class, as the parents participated too!

The instructors here are so accommodating, caring, compassionate, and friendly to the kids. My little one started coming here during the pandemic in Mini Hero class (18m -3yo) then into Little Hero class, and it is amazing to see him grow as he is much better at following instructions and rules, learning different movements, and having fun at the end of each session which he always look forward to with the group games and obstacle course. It is a good balance of learning the martial arts and keeping young kids focused with fun movements and exercises. It is better for my little one to have this style of martial arts leaning than the traditional style of karate or taekwondo or kung fu as he will not be able to enjoy the strict approach and stress in the traditional institutions. The instructors are super supportive and always encourage my little one to try again when he couldn't do a move in class or during testings. It actually really empower him to keep trying and motivate him to do better. I like how they keep the mood fun and light while still reminding the kids on their manner and proper way to greet and say goodbyes to their instructors. The rules are in place, just being implemented in a humanly way. I would recommend kids to try this place as we have been going since 2021 and are still going there now every week!
Oh and they also have an after-school care program and we wish we live in the neighborhood to go to one of the schools that they serve. Would be a great way for them to practice every afternoon for a class after school and parents don't need to worry about pick up and drop off from schools.

I've been a fan of the good things martial arts can do for you since I was young and was excited to enroll my young daughter into it as soon as she expressed even the smallest amount of interest. Excel was one of many local options, but I was impressed by Val and Luke at the Christmas block event in Austin Heights a couple years ago and decided to enroll her with them. Their passion, empathy, and positive energy left me feeling confident that they would treat my kid fairly and that she'd have fun while learning the nuances of all that goes into training as a martial artist.
Since that decision I have been consistently impressed with the depth of their care and passion for the growth of their young patrons. They instill all the core concepts that are key to martial arts, respect, discipline, and perseverance, all the while maintaining a light, friendly and fun atmosphere.
Excel is more than just a martial arts studio, its a learning environment where kids can work on their class work and study while simultaneously challenging themselves mentally and physically through Martial Arts. The combination of child care and dojo is a wonderful combination that only helps to amplify the studios family oriented approach. Whilst giving the working parents an avenue of assistance in the madness that is school hours with before and after school care.
I cannot sing their praises enough. If you or your loved ones are interested in martial arts and want to learn with passionate, friendly, caring instructors then this is the place to do it.

They have been so wonderful with our son. The instructors have helped him focus more and follow directions. They work with us on goals for his behaviors and remembering to use his self-control. He's been there for 3 months now, and we hope to see him improve even more with his guidance. We were so nervous to bring him because he can be a handful, but they've been so great.
We also watch them with the other kids in their classes, and they are very patient and understanding and help the kids who are still learning. Highly recommend Excel!

This is THE place I can have full trust with my children in. Not only do my kids learn self defense and martial arts work, they are taught discipline and respect and shaping them into better individuals - polite, courteous, motivated, confident, responsible, considerate & respectful!! With the leadership class offered in the studio, my children also obtain great leadership skills.
The owner, management, and leadership team are professional, generous, kind hearted, non-judgmental, and empathetic to all the students. The studio provided equal learning opportunities to families with financial struggles, and to me that speaks volumes as to how dedicated and passionate they are. I would highly recommended taking classes at this studio and would not hesitate to enroll my children. There is nothing to dislike about Excel Martial Arts Coquitlam. All the instructors here are so friendly and supportive and truly want you to succeed. I spent four years here and had to stop unfortunately, but this place will become your second home and you will grow another family. You learn many different things and can apply them to real life. Wonderful for any ages! If you are looking to start or continue martial arts, you will not regret coming here!
