My daughter began attending this gym a few years ago when she was only 4 years old. Since then (she is now 7), has loved EVERYTHING about Excel Martial Arts. Ms. Peligrino is amazing - she is great with children of all ages, as well as adults. She is extremely professional and her passion for Martial Arts shines through her teaching and her abilities. The other instructors are all amazing as well and truly want the best for all of their students. Would recommend this gym for anyone looking to learn Martial Arts or expand their knowledge of the sport. THE BEST!

Valerie is so amazing. She is kind, knowledgeable, good at instruction and conveying to children. My son is in the before and after school program and he enjoys the friendships and bonds he has created with the instructors. The program is amazing, not only does it include martial arts but also provides transportation to and from school. They are open early and run late to accomodate my crazy schedule.

My children have been part of the Excel Martial Arts family for over 5 years. The instructors are welcoming, patient and very encouraging. They take learning styles and needs into consideration and ensure their program is a good fit for each student.
Ms Valirie Peligrino and her instructor team go above and beyond to make sure that each student feels supported and capable of achieving success.
The before and after school care is wonderful and the caregivers provide lots of fun and educational activities and cool field trips.
Excel Martial Arts is a great place to train. Their commitment to their students and to teaching a high quality curriculum is commendable!

This is THE place I can have full trust with my children in. Not only do my kids learn self defense and martial arts work, they are taught discipline and respect and shaping them into better individuals - polite, courteous, motivated, confident, responsible, considerate & respectful!! With the leadership class offered in the studio, my children also obtain great leadership skills.

The owner, management, and leadership team are professional, generous, kind hearted, non-judgmental, and empathetic to all the students. The studio provided equal learning opportunities to families with financial struggles, and to me that speaks volumes as to how dedicated and passionate they are. I would highly recommended taking classes at this studio and would not hesitate to enroll my children. I’m so happy I found this studio and the pride they take in teaching the kids here is incredible.

There is nothing to dislike about Excel Martial Arts Coquitlam. All the instructors here are so friendly and supportive and truly want you to succeed. I spent four years here and had to stop unfortunately, but this place will become your second home and you will grow another family. You learn many different things and can apply them to real life. Wonderful for any ages! If you are looking to start or continue martial arts, you will not regret coming here!

Biography

Hello, I’m Valirie Peligrino, a dedicated martial artist and community advocate based in Coquitlam. My journey in martial arts began at the young age of 7, and over the past 22 years, it has become an integral part of my identity. In November 2019, I proudly assumed the role of owner, steering the path of my martial arts journey with a commitment to excellence.

Academic Pursuits

Currently, I am pursuing a diploma in Early Childhood Education. This academic pursuit aligns with my passion for nurturing and empowering young minds, aiming to make a positive impact through education.

Martial Arts Journey

I achieved my black belt at the age of 10, a testament to my dedication and discipline. Throughout my martial arts career, I have trained tirelessly and now find the joy in helping others reach their black belt goals. To date, I’ve assisted over 50 individuals in achieving this significant milestone.

Community Engagement

My commitment to community service extends beyond the training centre. I have actively participated in fundraising initiatives for elementary schools, contributing to the arts by choreographing fight scenes for theater productions, and mobilizing support for disaster relief efforts and local food banks.

Personal Pursuits

Outside the realm of martial arts and academics, I find joy in exploring the mountains through offroading, discovering new culinary delights in local restaurants, engaging in fun and competitive sports with friends, and expanding my mind through personal development and business literature.

Recognitions and Awards

My efforts in both martial arts and community service have not gone unnoticed. I am honored to have been nominated for the Community Award and to have secured the title of the Best Daycare and Martial Arts facility.

Inspirations and Influences

My life journey has been profoundly influenced by my mother, who instilled in me the values of hard work and asset-building. In the realm of personal development and resilience, my business partner Bryan Janzen has been a guiding force, showing me that possibilities are endless as long as I remain focused and plan for a better future.

Future Aspirations

Looking ahead, I aspire to continue impacting our community in the most positive way possible. My goal is to provide childcare solutions to all families, ensuring a supportive and nurturing environment for the future generations and to continue to help students be the best version of themselves.
